To begin an analysis, IMPLAN needs a starting value in 1 of the 4 required fields: Industry Sales, Employment, Employee Compensation, or Proprietor Income. IMPLAN will automatically fill in the remaining fields that are unknown based on underlying Study Area relationships. In instances where local Study Area information or business specifications demonstrating more than one of these values is available, these fields may be modified. This allows you to customize your industry directly in the Events field as you build your impact.
Changing the underlying output/employment relationships creates a Custom Event. Customizing an Event will alter the underlying Study Area calculations for that Event. Once an Event has been customized, the effect of that Event will be calculated based on the inputted values. Because all four fields are based on integral relationships, making a change to Employment, Employee Compensation, or Proprietor Income will result in all fields being marked with a red exclamation mark. This sign signifies that at least one of the underlying IMPLAN data elements and its relationships have been customized for this Event. (Changing Industry Sales resets the entire Event based on Study Area relationships).
Employment
When the value in the Employment field is changed from the estimated value, the computer will prompt the following window:

rewrites the calculations in the model for output per worker for this Event.
returns the default values to the field.
Employment Compensation
When a value in the Employment Compensation field is changed from the existing value, the computer will prompt the following window:

rewrites the calculations in the model for Employment Compensation for the Event.
returns the default values to the field.
Proprietor Income
When a value in the Proprietor Income field is changed from the existing value, the computer will prompt with the following window:

rewrites the calculations in the model for Proprietor Income for the Event.
resets the field back to the original calculated value.
Custom Event
Once one of these fields has been accepted as a Custom Event, the remaining fields will no longer prompt the Custom Event? screen. Changes made in the Custom Event? screen only affect the Event in which the changes have been made, not the Sector as a whole.

If you need to use the same Sector in the model to represent a different Industry in the same Sector code, it will be calculated from the background data or can be modified separately, allowing for multiple similar sectored industries to be examined in the same Activity.
