Introduction:
If you have Industry or Sector level detail with which to Model your impacts but you would like to produce simplified, easy to read results, aggregating the Result Interface after the Model is run is a way to maintain the accuracy of the Model's Multiplier specificity and integrity, while still providing you audience with a simplified set of results to interpret. This article explains that process for IMPLAN Pro.
Detailed Information:
Aggregating a Model can create issues of Aggregation Bias, creating Multipliers and production functions that no longer accurately represent the Industry impacts you are trying to model, but instead representing weighted averages of the combined Industries that can vary drastically from the Industry Sectors of which they are comprised.
To avoid Aggregation Bias, you may want to avoid aggregating a Model and aggregate only the results produced by the Model.
When you only need to report on certain Sectors or groups of Sectors or your audience is better addressed by rolled up Industry categories, you can condense reports into aggregate formats, while maintaining the unique Industry production functions and their resultant Multiplier integrity.
Usage:
To get accurate results in combination with a simplified report, you will want to run your impacts on an unaggregated model and then aggregate the Detailed Results into your specified format.
Aggregation Bias is avoided in this method because the aggregated result values are simple summations of the final numbers, thus there is no loss of underlying data integrity.
