I am using the Multi-Regional for the first time. Is it appropriate to use this tool to look at the relationship between a few counties? Will it answer the question if a new project bring new jobs to county A, now many jobs will be created in neighboring counties B and C? I tested this out and found that the total impact on a geography of 3 counties is quite a bit larger than the running the MRIO analysis with county A as the project location and Counties B and C linked in the Multi Region Analysis. Is that expected? Can you explain why?

  • Hello,

    Thank you for your questions.

The impacts for the region as a whole may be larger than the MRIO scenario impacts because region A has larger multipliers than regions B and C. When looked at as one region, region A would hike up the industry averages and multipliers. When looked at as individual regions, the impact due to leakages going to regions B and C would be calculated based of the region specific sector levels and multipliers.

    Thank you,
