Invalid Microsoft Word & Excel reports

When creating impact reports in Excel or Word format I cannot open these reports in the current versions of Excel or Word (2003 or 2007). It gives an error that says: \"You are attempting to open a file that was created in an earlier version of Microsoft Office. This file type is blocked from opening in this version by your registry policy setting.\" The Microsoft support site instructions on removing this block did not work. The files will still not open. Do you know of any workarounds?

  • Office 2007 dropped support for wk1 files. Just save them as a tab delimited file and you can open then.

  • That certainly works as an alternative way to view the raw data, but I was hoping there would still be a way for me to export formatted reports (like I could with in MS Word). Any alternative ways to export a formatted report?

  • I had no luck with Microsofts workaround to remove the restriction either (regedit directory they specify does not exist). But you can use the \"trusted site\" workaround (option 1). I got that to work for Microsoft word with no problem and it does read the IMPLAN \"word\" export file.
