Are you looking at a county and for which year? The 2010 ERS NASS data shows $6 billion in agricultural sales for the state of Colorado and 2009 REIS shows 44,500 farm jobs (proprietors and wage and salary workers) for the state of Colorado.

I am looking at Boulder County for 2009 and it says Sector 12 “All Other Crop Farming,” has 842 employees and output of $716 million. This number also dominates agriculture exports in IMPLAN. But the Ag Census of 2007 says that the total value of ALL agricultural products is $34 million and the total number of farms 746. Thank you, Allie

The data I have shows 848 jobs in sector 12. BEA shows total farm employment for Boulder of 932 jobs. The sum of all Farm jobs in IMPLAN 2009 for Boulder is actually a little less than that. For input-output modeling there is an adjustment to account for farm production consumed on the farm. For hay there is a very large adjustment to account for hay, pasture and range consumed on the farm. There was a problem with 2009 data in that many counties did not receive hay as an output and the distribution of farm jobs for Boulder reflects receiving more than its share of hay production on controlling to the state control total. This skewed the distribution of farm data for Boulder County.

Allie, send your e-mail address to me at doug@implan.com and I can send you the 2010 data for Boulder's ag sectors, which better reflects the Census data. You can edit the 2009 to reflect the 2010.
