economic impact analysis based on cost
Hello,
we have the following problem:
we want to do an economic impact study of of transportation mode rail on a state's economy.
to do so, we get all ecenomic data from the rail companies in the state. However, we also want to consider the economic impact of the rail companies' cutomers because they also have revenue and employee positions just related to their business with rail. the problem is these companies are not able to tell us what we need for IMPLAN. the only information we can get are the payments to the rail company for their service. that means we just can get the expenses caused by the business with rail.
The question is: Can we use these information for IMPLAN? is it possible to use costs of a customer in order to analyze the economic impact of a rail company?

There is no data in the software that will tell you if whether the truck or water transportation is an acceptable substitute for rail transportation. I see it as an all or nothing deal, can the business operate without access to rail?0

Let me try to explain it differently because somehow you do not understand my questions. i dont want to know any substitutes. these mentioned companies use the service of rail companies to ship SOME of their products. that causes costs for them. we know the amount that the company is paying to the rail company per year and want to input these costs as event in IMPLAN. and then IMPLAN shall tell us the total economic impact by rail. is that possible?0

When you enter what the railroad charged the company as an "industry sales" change to the rail sector, you will create the impact caused by railroad operations required to satisfy that output.0

Alright, that makes sense how the customer's costs can be the rail company's industry sales. We would like to know if the customer's costs can be used to create an event in the customer's industry? This way the scenario results would show the needed employment, value added, and output associated with those costs incurred by the customer.0

The industry production function shows the costs associated with each unit of output. A certain amount of rail transporation is required to bring goods to the producing sector. The shipment of that unit of output may also require rail transportation but the ultimate consumer of the unit pays that cost as part of its production function. There is no indication of how much a sector's effort is reliant on particular input as there may be substitutes or conservation methods depending on the commodity.0
