How to extract Input-Output Table from IMPLAN?

Hello! Out research institute has purchased the IMPLAN for the IL Counties. We would like to obtain the Input-Output Tables of these counties directly. Could you please let me know how to extract the Input-Output table from IMPLAN(when we purchased IMPLAN, it comes with this hard-drive with counties database) after I select the study region (counties)? I have attached a Input-Output table example in the attachment. How could we obtain such Input-Output table with same structure (attributes) for a certain county from IMPLAN? I would greatly appreciate your response. Thank you! Best Regards, L

  • You can approximate the BEA's table but you can not duplicate it exactly for several reasons. 1) The BEA's table is the US use matrix before redefinitions. We use the BEA's use table after redefinitions. 2) The Use table are gross purchases, we create Domestic Output Direct Requirements - meaning we pull out the imported goods and services creating an import matrix. First, you will need to create the model using the county data file ( see: http://implan.com/v4/index.php?option=com_multicategories&view=categories&layout=blog&cid=230:buildingthemodel&Itemid=14 ). Then create an aggregation scheme to aggregate IMPLAN 440 sectors to match the BEA's 67 sector matrix ( see http://implan.com/v4/index.php?option=com_multicategories&view=article&id=556:556&Itemid=14 ). The use table, once the model is aggregated can be found in Explore > Social Accounts > Exports (tab) > Structural Matrix Elements ( CSV only ) > Regional Use The value added, output and employment elements can be found under Explore > Study Area Data > View By: Industry Detail. Operating Surplus = Proprietor Income + Other Property Income and Taxes on production net of government subsidy = IBT. Note, you can copy and paste this report or export directly to Excel. The final demands will be found under Explore > Social Accounts > View By: ( Institution Local Commodity Demand; Household Local Commodity Demand; Government Local Commodity Demand - 3 tables ). Again, you can copy and paste these reports or export directly to Excel. A complete Social Accounting Matrix, including transfers, can be created by going to Explore > Social Accounts > IxC Social Accounting Matrix > Export > Industry Detail SAM Files ( CSV Only ) > Industry Detail, Aggregated Rows. The data will be displayed in Row, Column, Value format and can be turned into a matrix using Excel's pivot table (see: http://implan.com/v4/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=699:how-to-create-a-pivot-table-&catid=266:faq-videos&Itemid=50)

  • Hi Doug, Thank you for your very detailed explanation! I appreciate it. After spending some more time with the software, I still have difficulty following your instruction. Please see the attachment for the screen shot of the IMPLAN that I am using. As you can see, there's no such a tab called "Explore" on my screen. I am wondering how I could access this function in order to obtain the tables that you are describing. Thank you very much! Your response is greatly appreciated. Regards, Leigh

  • It is how your preferences are set. Go to File > User Preferences > Analysis (tab) > and check the Advanced and Explore check boxes.
