Direct Output Effect
What is the easiest way to explain why the direct effect with respect to output does not equal the industry sales entered in the setup activities? (leakages, etc.)

IMPLAN SupportHello Greg, For us to provide you an accurate answer, could you please provide us with some context on the study you are conducting? (i.e. how you setup your activity, if you have used margins, etc.) Thanks!0 -
I've entered industry sales for several IMPLAN sectors as Indsutry Change. Total sales amount to $101,087,307, all in 2011 dollars, and the direct output result, as reported by IMPLAN, is $99,555,507, in 2011 dollars. One sector was margined.0

IMPLAN SupportHi Greg, We suspect that the margined Sector is a retail sector (320-331). In this case, the software will only consider the portion of the Industry Sales value that remains with the retailer for purchases of goods and services to operate the establishment, and to pay their payroll. The remaining values (the portion of the cost of the sold goods that is attributed to the wholesaler, to transport, and to the producer) are all lost, in effect leaked from the model, because we don't know exactly what items were purchased through the retailer, and therefore cannot specify a producer value, transport value and mix, and wholesale value of the products. You can view exactly what portion of the total Industry Sales value is being used in the impact calculations, by going to the Event Options> Edit Event Properties>Margins>Edit screen; . This will show you both the margin percentage and the total value being applied to the Multipliers. The difference between your Industry Sales value and the Margined portion should be the $1,531,800 difference between your Sum of Event Values and you Direct Output.0
