Not for Profit - Local Purchase Requirement

I am a first time user working with a not-for-profit community hospital, which is proposing to renovate its facilities. Additionally, the hospital is receiving a local grant with the requirement that 50% of the entire project labor be residents of the city. I reflected industry demand increases for "maintenance and repair of nonresidential structures" for most of renovation. I reflected the infrastructure improvements in "water, sewage and other treatment and delivery systems" and "electric power generation transmission, and distribution". Lastly, I set the LPP to 50% to reflect 50% of the local project labor demand requirement. Since this is my first time using IMPLAN, I would appreciate any comments or suggestions on my approach. Joe

  • Hi Joseph. We have one question for you concerning your Forum Post. Please explain what you mean by the following statements. “I reflected industry demand increases for maintenance and repair of nonresidential structures" for most of renovation. I reflected the infrastructure improvements in water, sewage and other treatment and delivery systems and electric power generation transmission, and distribution". Thanks!

  • Hi Joseph. Since we did not hear from you concerning your Forum Post and our follow up question to you, what you describe in your initial Post looks to be fine. Which Sectors will you model your Events? We just want to make sure that those Sectors best fit your project. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

  • My understanding is that when running IMPLAN, one chooses the industry/sector, from which there will be additional demand. Since my client is renovating buildings, I chose the industry sector called renovation of nonresidential buildings etc.. My client is also proposing to spend significant amounts on power upgrades, and water/sewer improvements. Therefore, I selected those industries and created events (i.e. spending) before running IMPLAN. Did I answer your question?

  • Hi Joseph. Based on your reply, I would say you did. However, I would remind you when modeling these impacts to think about whether most of the goods and services that will be used in these projects will be provided locally or will some will be obtained from outside the region and by how much. This can affect the total amount of the project expenditures that will occur locally and ultimately how large the overall economic impact will be in the region. Please let us know if we can provide further help.
