BEA Spending Patterns Utility

Hi there, I am using the Spending Patterns for Investment by BEA Industry file in my economic impact analysis. (MIG2007ActLib440_SpendingPatterns_for_Investment_by_BEAIndustry.impdb) I need to use this for multiple industries and am wondering if there is an Excel template that I could load into IMPLAN to automate this process? Additionally, do the BEA industry codes map to NAIC codes? And if so, which version of the NAIC codes? Lastly, should the level be the total expenditure amount?

 • Hi Kathyrn, It sounds like you are using a variety of capital expenditure programs and trying to get an easier way to import these into IMPLAN. If this is correct, then unfortunately there is not excel spreadsheet that will allow you to this that is already built. There are however a couple of options: >If you will be using all the patterns in a single model, you import the entire list at one time by clicking the first item in the list holding the shift key down and then clicking the last item on the list. Please note that if you do this, you will need to give the model's several minutes to complete all the imports. From this point, you can copy Activities that you will be using more than once with the Copy/Paste functions in the Activity screen. Alternatively, you could pull the file out of the Utilities folder and place it in your Models folder, so that it would be easier to access. Getting spending patterns into Excel, would require the import into IMPLAN and then the export to Excel. While the first part can be done in 'bulk' as described, the export would have to be per spending pattern. The codes do not map directly to NAICS but represent 2-5 digit NAICS rollups based on the type of Sector (i.e. services vs. manufacturing vs. Agricultural). If you need to map these you can do so through Help>Sector Search or if you are doing a number of them, this link may be a more practical solution. Current data should map to 2007 NAICS. Yes, Activity Level should be the total amount spent on Capital Expenditures. Please let me know if this addresses your concern or if you have any additional questions.
