Adjustments in the Events screen
I am conducting an economic impact estimate for a non profit group that places recent immigrants in full-time jobs. They have provided me with the number of new employees by IMPLAN category, an hourly wage amount, and a whether or not the position provides employee benefits. Most of these employees are in entry level positions, so the employee compensation levels are typically lower than the IMPLAN sectors in model for our region. I've adjusted the employee compensation totals in the event screen. My question is, do I also need to make an adjustment to the Proprietor Income in the event screen, and if so how?
Thanks

IMPLAN SupportHi Ruth, Thank you for your post. Since proprietors are sole owners and partnerships, our recommendation would be to set the Proprietor Income field to zero. To change the Proprietor Income field, select Event Options > Show > Show All. Another consideration we would like to mention is that the Employee Compensation field should have a fully loaded payroll value entered. For employees where you only have wage and salary information, you will want to use this spreadsheet to convert to Employee Compensation. If this adjustment is not made the software will remove more of the value than it should before it spends the Labor Income. Thanks!0 -
Thank you. The spreadsheet you provided is very helpful. Could you provide a little more direction on when to include and when to delete the proprietor income in the event set-up? For example, if I am looking at the impact of a single company moving into the region and bringing 300 new jobs, should I delete proprietor income because that relates to self employed only?0

IMPLAN SupportHi Ruth. We generally recommend removing proprietor income and taxes on production and imports (TOPI) when you are dealing non-profit types of organizations, public colleges and universities, or governmental entities. Usually, these types of entities don't make a profit nor they pay taxes. These are the more obvious exceptions that come to mind. We hope this helps.0
