Construction Analysis- Study Area for Analysis

Hello, I'm working on analyzing a large construction project in a rural area in New York State. I am wondering if I should be modeling the project within the county the project is located? Or should I be modeling the project within a larger region? If I model it in the county, am I likely to overestimate the impacts because the model doesn't take into constraints on local employment and supplies? Thanks in advance for your assistance. Jocelyn

  • Hi Jocelyn, I apologize for the delay in our response. The answer actually depends on the audience of the report. If it is for example, the state legislature, then the state model would be appropriate. If it is for the local community(ies) then only the counties for those communities; as they will not be as concerned about looking at the impact at the state level. A good region will usually include most of the labor force. In general the study area defines the boundaries of what will be included in the calculations of local impacts.
