Local Ouput and Trade Flow
Hello,
I have a question on the output(value of production)and trade flow. I am using Sacramento County 2010 Data set. When I clicked customize -> choose sector 31: electric power generation, transmission-> the output (value of production)=$72,926,460
Then I go to trade flow -> industry/institution RPC -> select commodity 3031: electricity and distribution services. From Industry intermediate demand for commodity table, I read total local (industry) demand = $177,930,000; total local (institution) demand = $233,606,300, Domestic export = $2,618,208, and foreign export = $213,637. The sum of these four items = $414,368,145. I think this number should match the value of production ($72,926,460), but it does not. Could anyone explain what's wrong with my understanding?
Thank you very much for your help!

IMPLAN SupportHiDuanyi. The Output value reported for Sector 31 is just the value of Industry Output for PRIVATE industries reporting under the NAICS codes associated to these services. You can see all of the total local production of the related commodity (3031) by going to the Explore> Social Accounts> Balance Sheet (Tab), and select View By: Commodity Balance Sheet and the Industry-Institutional production tab. In your region, these services are produced by Sectors 31, 32, and 431. Looking at this you may also note that the value of Industry production for Sector 31 for Commodity 3031 is not equal to the total Output of Sector 31. This is because two other sectors produce this commodity. These can be viewed by Explore> Social Accounts> Balance Sheet (Tab), and select View By: Industry Balance Sheet and the Commodity Production tab. Finally, to your specific question, about why Sector 31’s total production does not equal your numbers, you can find the answer by navigating to Social Accounts>Balance Sheets>View By: Commodity Balance Sheet>Choose the IMPLAN Commodity> 3031. Then select the >Industry-Institutional Demand tab. I believe the number you will see under the Industry Production column will match your total demand numbers you referenced in your Forum post. So, in short, total production of a commodity (3031) consists of industry production and Institutional production. You were just looking at the industry production value only of $72,926,460. We hope this helps.0 -

I have one more question to follow up. I am interested in calibrating the production of sector 31: electricity generation by local electricity generation data. When I click customize > study area data, I can only calibrate the industry output of sector 31. Since a large proportion of electricity is produced by sector 431: State and Local government electric utilities, this is not reflected in the industry output. My question is how can I calibrate the total production instead of industry production of a commodity in IMPLAN? Thank you again for your explanation :)0

IMPLAN SupportHello Duanyi, You should be able to edit Output, Value Added, Employment of industry 431 as well. Editing both the producing industries of commodity 3031 will be necessary to change the output of commodity 3031. Please let us know if you need anything else. Thanks!0
