Installation of machinery & equipment
I am seeking to understand how to account for the local impact of the installation of machinery and equipment into the I/O model? All equipment is being purchased outside of the study area, but the installation will be approximately $500,000. Questions:
1)Would this be treated as a new "event"?
2)Would I place the value in the industry sales category?
3)What sector does this fall into? Or, is it the same as I am using for the industry I am working with already?
4)If I don't have jobs/wages associated with this already, does it matter?

IMPLAN SupportHi Jeff, Our first question would be is the company doing the installation local? If not then the installation value is probably leakage as well. If so the easiest way to determine the Sector they fall under might be to do a google search of the company's name + the phrase NAICS code, or you might see if there is any indication of with or without installation when you do a keyword search on the type of equipment being installed. Depending on what the equipment is, it may be installed by the vendor, in which case that value is also leaked. Assuming that it is local or you want to model it as potentially local: [ol] [li]Yes, you would create an Activity and Event for the installation.[/li] [li]Yes this would be an Industry Sales value as you have described it: the total payment made for installation services.[/li] [li]Unfortunately there is not clear Sector for this in the Model. We would recommend one of the above methodologies.[/li] [li]The Model can estimate jobs and wages for you based on the Industry and Industry Sales value you enter.[/li] [/ol] Hopefully this helps.0
