Impact of Micro-Community in San Bernardino County
Hi.
I am conducting a study on the economic impact of a very small general aviation airport in San Bernardino county, CA. San Bernardino county is the largest county in the US. I am wondering about the IMPLAN data and how this impacts the micro community of where the airport is located, that the impact is not lower based on the size of the county and their general overall size inside the county.
What is IMPLAN's view on the county size and the relation to the economic impact?
Thanks!

IMPLAN SupportHi Jeffrey, By size I assume you are referring to number of square miles rather than the size of the economy. I think size is less important than the fact that it is a small airport serving a small community rather than a regional airport (or even a hub). In this case I would assume that use would be entirely local, ie, that the RSC = 1.00 (you can edit that in Customize > Trade Flows). However, this effects only the forward links (those who demand airport services). Changing the RSC would not be necessary if you are estimating the impacts of airports operations on those industries who supply the airport - probably a very small impact. As far as the impact on the community itself, you are correct in thinking that the county as a whole would have a bigger impact than the community modeled on its own. You may consider a zip code file for that community if the target of the study is to model just that community. Thanks!0
