another airport question

I'm looking at the local economic impact of an increase in air passengers at an airport. Am I correct in interpreting "output" for the air transport sector in IMPLAN as funds spent by local residents on air service - where the funds spent would primarily be ticket sales? Ticket sales for passengers coming from other airports would not be included - correct? Thanks - Mike Walden

  • Hi Mike. If you are looking at the impact of increased air passengers travel at an airport, then it looks like either Sector 332 or Sector 383 (Travel arrangement and reservation services) could be used based on the IMPLAN sector description. You can do a Sector Search in IMPLAN and see that either of these sectors could potentially serve for your analysis. In regards to the output for Sector 332 (Transport Air), this sector includes more than just spending on air service by local residents, it includes spending on public and private air transportation, freight transportation, just to name a few categories. Again, if you do a Sector Search in IMPLAN and type in the word “Air”, sort by Industry Code, and then scroll down to Sector 332, you can see all of the many operations that occur in that sector. So, bottom line, passenger transportation is just one facet of this very diverse and important sector in a region’s economy. We hope this helps.
