Tax on Production and Imports: Sales Tax

I recently ran a model using county data in a state that does not have a general sales tax; however, the state and local tax report includes an amount for sales tax. Based on the definition in the glossary, I assume that this would probably represent taxes such as hotel tax, etc.? Please confirm. Thanks!

Hi Debbie! Thank you for your post. Unfortunately, we do not have county level tax receipts data; thus, county-level TOPI (Taxes On Production and Imports) is based on state TOPI-to-Employment ratio. So indeed - if the state has it, the county will have it. Sales tax does include motel/hotel taxes, as shown on page 4-12 of the attached document.
