Negative Factor Demand
Hello forum!
In looking at flows from activities to factors, capital in particular, there are some instances of negative numbers. For example, the datum for (capital, computer systems design services) is -2437.041 (data are for Virginia). Could you please explain why this is?
I sort of understand it as a thing where the industry's main outputs are capital goods (computer systems designs, ships, tanks, etc.), but it is not a complete understanding by any means.
Thank you.

We apologize, but we are still having trouble identifying which data you're referencing. In the current Virginia 2011 state file, computer systems design services (sector 372) has proprietor income of $1.04 million and other property income of -$784 million. In any case, proprietor income and other property type income can be negative because property owners can lose money, e.g. negative accounting profit. See the definition for proprietor income here: https://implan.com/index.php?option=com_glossary&id=177 and the definition for other property type income here: https://implan.com/index.php?option=com_glossary&id=175. Also, note that "property income" and payments to or by capital (the latter of which can be found in the IxC and IxI matricies under the Explore menu) are not synonymous in IMPLAN. Thank you for your patience!
