Construction Exports
The industry accounts in my region show that part of the total output for several of the construction sectors flows outside the region as domestic/international exports. I was under the understanding that all construction output occurs within the region. How do domestic exports apply to construction sectors? Are these local firms performing work elsewhere in the region? Or is this somehow non-local firms demanding construction services within the region?

Hello, While you are correct to expect that New Construction is all local, Repair & Maintenance Construction does not all occur locally. Our Foreign Exports data for the R&M Construction sectors (and all other service sectors) are based on the latest BEA Benchmark, which indeed shows foreign exports of all 3 IMPLAN R&M Construction sectors. Domestic Exports for the R&M Construction (and all other tradeable commodities and services) come from our Gravity Model. A foreign export of Maintenance & Repair would be basically people from the U.S. going internationally to Maintenance & Repair. Please let us know if you have additional questions. IMPLAN Group Staff
