Royalties on Technology

Hi Guys, I have a question on modeling royalties or licensing fees. Let's say an engineering firm owns a patented technology and licenses it to a company. The company puts the technology into a product and sells it. I'm modeling the impact of that technology, and I attribute the demand for the product to the technology. I model the level of product sales as the direct impact. I also want to model the royalties paid by the company to the engineering firm. Will the spending pattern of the product's IMPLAN sector (some sort of manufacturing) include a portion for royalties/license fees? I'm trying to avoid double-counting. I'm expecting I should either model it separately or adjust the existing ratio, if there is one. Thanks, Jeff

  • Hello Jeff, Licensing fees are a part of the spending pattern. Therefore, include the licensing fee dollar amount in the event and do not model it separately. Regards, IMPLAN Staff
