BEA versus IMPLAN data
What would account for the difference in BEA and IMPLAN estimates for employment and compensation?
I looked at IMPLAN state total employment and BEA Total Employment estimates for Alaska from 2000 to 2008 (except 2005), and noticed significant differences-- see attached file.
Please advise.
Thanks.

The differences you note range from 5.2% to 0.23% and can be attributed to the following factors: 1) the inconsistancies between County Business Patterns and BLS CEW data which is used to help with the non-disclosures. REIS wage and salary data relies on BLS CEW data. 2) Every year the BEA revises the previous five years. This usually has little effect on wage and salary employment and income but proprietor data can change significantly. We do not revise previous IMPLAN data sets based on new government revisions as we are not trying to create time series data. 3) Starting with 2006 data sets, the REIS data sets are lagged one year so we are essentially projecting proprietor data, with overall employment controlled to current year US BEA NIPA employment. 4) Prior to 2007 data sets force account adjustment (movement of industry activity from one sector to another, such as new construction being removed from utilities and restaurants being removed from hotels) was a straight reduction or increase in industry activity based on US percentages. Depending on the structure of the region, it would affect total employment. Current methods "shift" the employment within the region so force account adjustments do not affect total employment.0
