Clackamas County Metal Exports
Hi, I am trying to figure out how a certain element of the Clackamas County, Oregon metal industry (sectors 170-233) works. I am comparing statistics from 2006 with those from 2009. All other categories seem rational save the "totalexports" category. I divide "total exports" by "output" and usually that will give me a number that makes sense. In the case of the 2009 data, however, I end up with 26% exported, compared with 87% just three years ago. Any suggestions?

There is a methodolgy shift between the 2006 trade data and the 2008 and beyond. Prior to 2008, the trade estimates were based on an econometrically derived value based on a procedure developed in the 1980s. In the 2008 and later we us our National IMPLAN Trade Flows model to derive trade flows. They are really not comparable. Here is link to a paper describing the model. http://implan.com/V4/index.php?option=com_docman&task=doc_download&gid=196&Itemid=7 You can change the model specifications for 2009 to use the Econometric RPC method for comparison purposes, but we do prefer the Trade Flows model. You can find this under Model Construction Options in this kb article: http://implan.com/V4/index.php?option=com_multicategories&view=article&id=561:561&Itemid=14#activity
