Detailed sector definitions
Are there any detailed IMPLAN sector definitions available? The bridge tables are available in the download section, but the sector titles can leave a lot to be desired. Some IMPLAN sectors are more detailed than NAICS, so the NAICS details aren't very applicable. For example:
35 Construction of new nonresidential manufacturing structures
36 Construction of other new nonresidential structures
37 Construction of new residential permanent site single- and multi-family structures
38 Construction of other new residential structures
39 Maintenance and repair construction of nonresidential maintenance and repair
40 Maintenance and repair construction of residential structures
all map to NAICS 23.
For example, what does "other new residential structures" encompass if not single- and multi-family residences?

IMPLAN construction sectors are classified by structure types (Census definitions) rather than NAICs codes. This file (link) has a list of the types of structures in each IMPLAN construction sector. -
This page on our website shows the IMPLAN-to-NAICS bridge and this file contains the same information in spreadsheet form. This webpage allows you to search the various NAICS codes for additional detail as to what they include. Finally, the Sector Search function (under the Help menu) in IMPLAN allows you to search for sectors using keywords or NAICS codes. -
Dear Jenny, I am looking for detailed descriptions of the Implan construction sectors, i.e. what types of buildings or activities are included in each sector. In particular, we need to know the difference between sector 37-New Residential single- and multifamily, and sector 38-Other new residential. Your previous message in this discussion from 2011 provided a link to a document with this information, but it now appears to be broken. Please provide this document at your earliest convenience. Thanks very much. Alan Hodges, awhodges@ufl.edu.edu -
