The consistency with Commodity Flow Survey data
Hi,
IMPLAN provides additional trade flows to augment Commodity Flow Survey (CFS) data. Our study will mix the use of IMPLAN's I-O technical coefficients and CFS's commodity flows. We're wondering if there is a consistency problem. Do we have to adjust the IO coefficients numbers accordingly?
Thanks very much!

The inconsistency would likely come from our estimate of total commodity supply and the CFS data. You will have to adjust one or the other. There is an issue with using CFS straight out as trade flows. The CFS data is about the movement of goods regardless of where the goods are manufactured. You will likely see large flows of goods in port areas but relatively less actual production of commodities in that area. -
But will this inconsistency affect the use of IO relationships? If adjust the IMPLAN total commodity supplies, the outputs of each industry is actually changing simultaneously. The transaction values between any two industries needs to be adjusted proportionally. Such proportionality can be assumed to be the IO relationships.
