Direct Impact when using industry spending pattern

I'm finding that I am at a loss in what to use for the direct effects after using the industry spending pattern or creating my own. If I have no information about direct employment in the sector, only total sales, how would I show the direct effects? Maybe I am missing a part of the tutorials. Thanks for your help.

  • Hi Janice, Ideally you would want to know the actual job and compensation rates as well as the total Output of the original company. Presumably you at least the goods and services budget value (Intermediate Expenditures (IE)) and compensation (Employment Compensation + Proprietor Income if any) for running the Labor Income Change portion of your Analysis-by-Parts. To extrapolate the remaining numbers you need for your Direct impact, we recommend finding the IMPLAN Sector that most closely matches your Sector and using the data in the Customize screen to for that Sector to develop ratios of IE to Output, and Employment Compensation to Total Value Added. This will allow you to use the IMPLAN Sector as a proxy for you Direct values. Please let us know if you need any additional assistance.

  • Thank you for your quick response. It is actually for an entire agricultural sector, so I'm thinking that perhaps a contribution analysis might better represent what they want to know. Thanks again!

  • Hi Janice, Yes if you are looking for the current effect of all of agriculture the multi-contribution analysis would be the best methodology. It sounds like you have directions for that, but if you need additional assistance, please let us know.
