Zip Code Level Data
Are there any tutorials or articles related to the use of zip code level data? I have the county plus model, but I can't figure out how to look at zip code level data. For example, I'd like to see what the Output is for certain sectors such as "Food services and drinking places" for a certain zip code. I'd also like the ability to narrow a study area based on zip codes, rather than looking at the whole county. The manual says the County Plus Packages provide the capability to group zip code area data files to create Study Areas for cities, watershesd or other sub-county regions. But I didn't see anything on the training DVD or in the book that came with the DVD that explained how to do this.

IMPLAN SupportHello, The information and instructions on this webpage should be helpful - toward the bottom of the page you will see instructions for zip-codes in particular. Note that when building a new model, the Zip Code files will not populate in the Browse for Folder screen. Rather, you will need to select the County within which the Zip Code is located and select OK - the Zip Code Files will then populate in the Select Model Data Files screen. http://implan.com/v4/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=519:519&catid=230:KB13 Please let us know if you still have questions.0 -
Hi, my organization has also purchase a 2011 County plus Zip Code level dataset. Can you tell me which zip code geographic boundaries are used for creating these datasets? The reason I ask is that the list of zip codes supplied does not entirely correspond with the actual range of zip codes that are currently found in our county (or with those that were present in 2011). Some zip codes included in the dataset appear to be entirely outside of our county, and some zip codes that are definitely within our county are not included. Thank you for any clarification you can provide. Jeff Sovich City of Greensboro, NC0

IMPLAN SupportHi Jeff, They are divided on the basis of the USPS definitions. Unfortunately it is not infrequent that a number of Zip Codes will cross county borders. When this happens, we have no way to split the Zip Code information between the counties, so we assign it to the county that seems to have the greater portion of the economic activity. If you like you can submit a list of the Zip Codes that you feel should be in your county and if they are border Zip Codes we may be able to provide those for you. We apologize for the confusion in the division of Zip Codes.0
