Analyzing Export Activity
Is there a way to use state-level IMPLAN data for the state of Georgia to determine the export activity of the manufacturing industry outside of the U.S.? I know I can use the RSC values to determine export activity outside of the region (i.e., Georgia), but I don't know how to get these values for outside the U.S…or if that is even possible with the state-level data.
Thank you!

IMPLAN SupportHi Jimmy, If you only have state level data you will not be able to determine this, you would need to have the U.S. total file as well. If you purchased a state package it will include both these files in your STATES folder. to calculate foreign and domestic import rates by sector: 1) Open the Explore>Social Accounts>Commodity Summary report for the US model. 2) in the column titled "Average RPC" copy and paste, then calculate 1-"average Regional Purchasing Coefficient" (This will give you the rate of foreign imports by commodity for your region as well. ) 3) Open this same file for your region and copy the same column and calculate (1-average Regional Purchasing Coefficient). The difference between this rate and that of the nation equals the domestic imports ratio by sector. 4) apply these ratios to the region's "Total gross commodity demand" (also listed in the same report as Regional Purchasing Coefficient) to find the amount of foreign and domestic imports by sector! Hopefully this addresses you question, if not, or if you have additional questions, please let us know.0
