local property taxes
I'm assessing the fiscal impacts of a series of redevelopment projects. On the tax impact charts (i.e. the charts produced through IMPLAN), there is a line that says: "Tax on Production and Imports: Property Tax." I have always assumed this was primarily, or at least included, local property taxes. A colleague and experienced economic analyst told me that was incorrect: that IMPLAN does not model local property taxes. Please clarify, and, if my colleague is correct, what is included in that category?

Hello Evans. IMPLAN’s Taxes on Production and Imports (formerly IBT payment to property taxes) include all recipients of real estate property tax - school, city and county and any other taxing districts. Household property tax only include personal property taxes such as on luxury cars, boats and planes. Local taxes are not separated, the tax report shows it for state and local combined. The model does estimate local property taxes, but your colleague is correct in that the model does not re-spend those dollars We hope this answers your question.
