Zipcode number of households earning level

The percentage of households by earning level are exactly the same for each zipcode as well as the same for the county as a whole (see attached). It appears that this information is just extrapolated from the county level data using the population figure for each zipcode. Is this correct? If so, it seems a bit misleading to provide this data without some note. Is there a place that indicates this fact? Thanks.

 • Hello Mike, We apologize about your concern on this. We have two articles on our website that specifically describe the generation of ZIP Code data. This article describes how ZIP Code files are estimated. This one explains how to understand the data included in the ZIP Code files. Hopefully these will explain. In addition to this information we also wanted to let you know that Zip Code level population comes from the Decennial ZTMA files. Income per person/household is based on county level. The 2010 Census did not collect income data, that is now done on a geographically rotating basis by the American Community Survey - which only publishes county level data. For 2010 and earlier it was based on 2000 Census which did collect number of households by income class by ZTMA. Please let us know if you have any additional questions, Implan Support Staff
