Same analysis, different results?

We have discovered that two users here, using the same data and IMPLAN version, have different models being built: one has 411 industries, the other 409, as seen on the IMPLAN Model Economic Overview screen. Both users are using state data for Massachusetts for 2011. Both have the same settings in User Preferences. We have run both analyses many times and nothing change. What could possibly account for the different models and results we are seeing?

  • Quick update if it matters: I had the wrong numbers, it is 413 industries versus 411. We also fixed this: both users re-downloaded the 2011 data. Now both models have 413 industries. Did you revise the state data for Massachusetts 2011 at some point? (Also we do know that 2012 data are available).

  • Hello Lek, Actually you did exactly what we would have suggested. We did do an update to the 2011 data at about the same time as we released the 2012 and moving forward we are actually planning on releasing several revisions across the year so that our user's can have access to the latest data as it is released/ updated by the federal government. However, unfortunately, we do not as yet have a way to keep the software from overwriting the earlier download, and we understand that for consistency users, may want to be able to access the same version of the data that they had used. As thus, we have not officially re-released updates at this time to the general user populace, as we are waiting to ensure that we have a way to prevent overwriting the previous data.
