What to do when a sector is non-existent?
Hello,
I have a question where, for example, I am forecasting the economic impact of an amusement park in a county which will be built in the future. Since this amusement park does not exist in this particular county, but will exist in the future, is it safe to take a look at a similar county with an existing amusement park and manually make changes to the "Region Data Modification" section for the amusement park sector?
Thank You

IMPLAN SupportHi Will, Thank you for your post. Even though you do not have an amusement park in your study region, there may be other industries that report to the Sector,406. If sector 406 does not exist in your region at all, then you can create your own industry. To do so you must need to know at least the Employment value associated with the new sector. This link will assist you in construction your own industry. This method will alter the underlying Multipliers for the Model. The alternative of creating your own industry, is to do an Analysis-by-Parts as this will not alter the underlying Multiplier matrix. This link: http://implan.com/v4/index.php?option=com_multicategories&view=article&id=730:case-study-analysis-by-parts&Itemid=71 will discuss how to conduct an Analysis-by-Parts study. Thanks!0 -

So I would include that link as well. Related to your statement below, he absolutely can do as you have described. This will alter the underlying Multipliers for the Model. As described here there are 4 possibilities: 1. If 406 is already in the region, he could modify it with additional data that he has or, 2. If he has a neighboring county that he thinks has an amusement Sector that would look a lot like his own he can certainly make Sector 406 look like that county (whether it exists or not) 3. If he doesn’t have the neighboring county, doesn’t want to purchase, and there is not currently any data for Sector 406 what you describe below will allow him to populate it on the basis of national averages.
