I am using 2012 data and want to perform a contribution analysis for the year 2012 for the ag sector, but then also wanted to run a contribution analysis for the earliest year IMPLAN has data available (mid 1980s?). I am familiar with the steps to run the current contribution with the 2012 data, but was curious if it was at all possible to run the historical analysis. It is my understanding that if I simply change the dollar year, this will not accurately the market as it was in the 1980s, but will simply adjust the 2012 contribution analysis results to whichever year I choose. Any advice would be most helpful.

  • Hi Elizabeth. You are correct in how you would approach the contribution analysis for 2012. If you want to do a similar analysis for past years, you would need the IMPLAN data for those particular years. You can purchase IMPLAN Data for previous years. The cost will depend on what your 2012 data is. If you have the state total file, then you would need the same state total files for the past years to perform a time serious contribution analysis for comparison purposes. Changing the dollar Year for View, only adjusts the value of the 2012 contribution analysis results to the chosen year. It does not reflect the market conditions in past years. We hope this helps.
