Event year for contribution analysis
I am running a contribution analysis for electric power generation, transmission and distribution industry (single industry analysis). After reading through the online instructions and some other forum posts, I am still not sure what to use as the event year in the analysis. Do I pick the event year to be 2011, since that is the model year? Or can I use 2013, since that is the year I would like to do the analysis for?
The online instructions for a single-industry contribution analysis uses 2007 Washington County as the model, but lists 2013 as the event year. Whereas the multi-industry instructions explicitly state that the event year should reflect the year data set you are using (in this case 2007).
Thank you for the clarification!

IMPLAN SupportHi Nicole. In reading your Forum Post, we have two questions for you. First, is the model year of your data 2011? Second, what is the year of the value you want to use for Sector 31? If your model year is 2011 and your year of your data is 2013, then set the Event Year to 2013 and enter your adjusted value of electric output. When you do this, you are telling the IMPLAN model that the value is 2013 and the model will take that value and deflate it to 2011, the year of your data. After you run your analysis and get your results, you will view them in 2013 by clicking in the "Dollar Year for View" cell on the left side of your results screen and selecting 2013. Now, the model displays your results in 2013 values, which is what you want. We hope this helps.0 -
We are using the output data from the 2011 model to do the contribution analysis, so yes, the model year of the data is 2011. We would like to perform the contribution analysis for 2013 (so I think the answer to your second question is yes), but the only output data we have is from IMPLAN Study Area Data. We are following the instructions here: http://implan.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=660%3A660&catid=253%3AKB33&Itemid=1 I think that, based on your response, I should use event year 2011, since I am taking the industry output directly from the IMPLAN model. However, this is not what the link above indicates for the single-industry analysis. (The image under "Set the Industry Sales number to..." shows event year 2013 when the output data in the example is coming from the 2007 model. Whereas in the multi-industry example it explicitly states "Please note this model was created with 2007 data, it is important that you change your Event Year to reflect the Year data set you are using."). To make sure I understand correctly, are you saying that I would only set the event year to 2013 if I have 2013 output data that came from a source outside of the IMPLAN model? Sorry for my confusion and thank you for your help. I do understand the "Dollar year for View" function, my confusion is in the setting up of the analysis. Thank you!0

IMPLAN SupportHi Nicole, The Event Year you select should correspond to the dollar-year in which your event values are measured. So, if your event values are from IMPLAN study area data from a 2011 dataset, set the event year as 2011. The rule is not event year=dataset year; it just so happens that since you are using event values from study area data from a 2011 dataset, your values are in 2011 dollars, so you should use 2011 as your event year. The rule is event year=dollar-year in which event values are measured, regardless of the source. I believe the example is pretending the existing 2007 is really the 2013 production value. The point is you want to gauge the impact based on the current industry production... but it is confusing. After obtaining your model results, you can then adjust the "Dollar Year for View" field to the dollar-year in which you want to report values. Thanks!0
