Event year
Hi,
I have a relative simple question, I think. I know that the event year represents the year that changes in final demand occur. But, I have also read in the forum that the event year should correspond to the dollar-year in which the event vlaues are measured.
I have scenario where I have have an IMPLAN dataset for 2012. For the project that I am analyzing, the event is expected to occur in 2017, but the estimates of the event are in 2014 dollars (they were not inflated to 2017). So, should the event year be 2014 or 2017? My guess is that it should be 2014, but just need to be sure.
thank you for your assistance.

Hi Ernesto, You are absolutely correct. The Event Year needs to match the value or purchasing power of the dollars, so if the values of the expenditures are 2014 dollar values that should be your Event Year. You can adjust Dollar Year for View to 2017 if you want to see the impacts in the year's dollar values. The primary purpose of the Event Year field is to adjust between the value of the dollar entered into Industry Sales and the dollar year of the Multipliers. So as a further example if you were to find a survey conducted in 2003 and you wanted to use it to see what a comparable project would look like today you would set your Event Year to 2003 and the Dollar Year for View to 2014. Hopefully this helps --Implan Support Staff
