Eliminating the Effects of an Industry

I was wondering what the procedure was for eliminating the impact of an entire industry in IMPLAN. I assume this can be done by zeroing out the RPCs, but can you step me through this process to ensure I do it properly? My goal is to determine how the employment multipliers in a particular industry would be affected if a separate industry were completely removed from the local region in question. Thank you!

  • Hi Jimmy. IMPLAN does allow you to completely remove an industry from your model if you desire or have a need to do so. You would do this by navigating to Customize>Study Area Data>Industry List> Scroll down and select industry to remove, highlight, and then select>Zero Out Industry. When you do this, you will get a pop up message that reads “ You are about to zero out this industry and save changes. This cannot be reversed. Continue?” If you want to remove/zero out the industry, then click “Yes”. If you don’t want to remove/zero out the industry, then you click “No.” If you decide to remove the industry from the model, then you will have to rebuild/reconstruct your model. To do this, you will navigate to Options>Construct>Multipliers to rebuild your model in order to create Events and run impacts. Even though you have removed the selected industry from your model, if you have need for this industry in future analysis, you can go back to your original IMPLAN data and build a new model of your target region. We hope this helps.
