Double-counting Employees
Hello,
I am starting an analysis for a network of organizations that all fall under an umbrella organization. How would you recommend accounting for the fact that an employee may work part-time at two of the organizations under the umbrella when we need to run the impacts of the overall umbrella organization as well as each entity under the umbrella? To explain further; employee 1 works 70% at entity 1 and 30% at entity 2. In IMPLAN, since it is jobs instead of FTEs that go into the model, is this person's job counted twice; and is this okay or would it be inflating impacts because it is really only one person being counted for 2 jobs?
Thank you.

IMPLAN SupportHello Denise, When running your impact as the overall umbrella the fact that the employee works part time at both locations will not make a difference. This is because Employment is not a driver in the Model. IMPLAN Employment is actually a headcount, so in traditional IMPLAN accounting the one person has two jobs and thus would be accounted for as two jobs in the Employment count. The actual economic driver is Employment Compensation, so this is where you want to be sure that you don't double-count. It sounds like you might have enough information to know the total compensation of each subset of the umbrella, so you would want to customize these figures so that the compensation matches the compensation portion of each part of each subset of the umbrella, so that the employee isn't getting higher than appropriate compensation for their work. Please let us know if you have any additional questions. IMPLAN Support Team0
