IMPLAN and BLS comparison

I have used the IMPLAN study area data (Texas) to get the total number of employee and total employee compensation (EC) in commercial logging (sector 16)in year 2013. If I divide employee compensation/total employee, I should be able to get average employee compensation (wages and salary with benefits)in the state. Can I compare this average employee compensation with annual mean wage reported in occupational employment statistics by BLS? Are they explain same or two different things? I will appreciate one explanation.

  • Hello, IMPLAN income per worker cannot be compared to BLS for several reasons: 1. BLS income is wages only, whereas Employee Compensation is loaded payroll (i.e., the total cost of the employees, including benefits and payroll taxes). 2. BLS employment is wage and salary (W&S) employment only, whereas IMPLAN employment includes proprietors. 3. BLS does not cover some other types of workers (e.g., elected officials, railroad workers, military, some small farms) Thanks!
