Private Hospital Impact FTE vs. Employee counts
We are working on a Private Hospital IMPLAN. They have provided Gross Revenue, Net Patient Revenue, Total Salary, Salary + Taxes and Benefits, Salary by Job Class with FTE counts, Vendor payments (including physicians), and 3 Contractor grouping FTE's. After speaking with another IMPLAN user in our region, they suggested we convert the FTE numbers to employees/jobs based on a table and use that to run the model. After skimming other posts here regarding FTE's it is unclear to me the better approach. Given the information/data the hospital has provided, should we convert FTE's to jobs? If so, would you please direct me to a conversion table? Or should we use total salaries or go back to the gross revenues level and use that as the basis? Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated!
Thank you.

IMPLAN SupportHi Cheryl. Thank you for your post. The answer to your question largely depends on how much information you wish to put into the IMPLAN Model. IMPLAN reports Employment as a head count which includes Full time, Part time and Seasonal workers. If one of your input values is Employment, you will then need to convert your Employment FTE to a head count to enter into the Model. You can do so by using the FTE Conversion table; I have included both the 536 and 440 table, as I am not sure which data year you are using for your analysis. 536 is 2013 and 440 is 2007-2012. To make the conversion from FTE to a head count is to locate the Sector you are using and divide the corresponding coefficient by the FTE. This number should be higher than your FTE figure. 536 FTE Conversion table: http://support.implan.com/index.php?view=download&alias=4-536-fte-a-employment-compensation-conversion-table&category_slug=536&option=com_docman&Itemid=1764 440 FTE Conversion table: http://support.implan.com/index.php?view=download&alias=44-440-fte-a-employment-compensation-conversion-table&category_slug=440-1&option=com_docman&Itemid=1764 You had also mentioned in your post that you have Gross Revenue; this value is potentially something you can also include as an input in your Industry Sales field. Another field when setting up your Event is Employee Compensation; this is a fully loaded salary, Employee salary, benefits and taxes. From your post you indicate that you have Salary, Taxes and Benefits. If this is a yearly value then this can be entered into the Model. What is the difference between "Total Salary" and "Salary+Benefits and Taxes"? As a we assume by Total Salary you mean wage and salary whereas Salary+Benefits and Taxes is the total Labor Income value. Also, unless you have proprietors, you can eliminate the Proprietor Income when you put your value in Employment Compensation. IMPLAN also has an order of operations:, where if you have an Industry Sales value, this needs to be entered first. If not then enter your Employee Compensation then Employment figure. Our recommendation is to enter the initial value > tab > override the IMPLAN values that populate with your own known values. Some of the additional costs listed are likely apportioned in the spending pattern. If you have additional questions or desires to break these out we can provide additional assistance. Contractors are typically part of the spending pattern so you may not want to include those jobs in the analysis until you are sure it is not being double-counted elsewhere. The more information you can include the better your study will be.0
