Economic Impact Analysis
I'd like to come up with an economic impact analysis for our university using existing studies and using a multiplier proxy from existing studies. I know this won't be accurate but still can come up with a reasonable range where our multiplier might fall. In the long run, we plan to buy the data and run the IMPLAN model. Any thoughts on how I could accomplish my short term goal? I already have a survey of literature but what factors should I consider when choosing a range for the multiplier? Things such as types of industries in our county, leakage, population, etc, what else? What would make the multiplier lower, or higher? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

IMPLAN SupportThank you for your post! We apologize, but we can really only support users who have purchased our products on this forum. You are correct that there will be no way to get an accurate estimated of a Multiplier for your university and region because each region has a unique set of Multiplier identities, and each Industry has their own specific and unique Multiplier, thus it is impossible to truly develop any accurate sense of a regional Multiplier, as each region will have unique relationships for Regional Absorption, Value Added factors and ratios, Output per Worker, etc. Since impact analysis and Multipliers, consider not just the university component but all the other Industries in a region and their ability to meet the demand of the university operations and the demand of local households, unless you are speaking very generically (i.e. a county Multiplier is typically between 1 and 2) there isn't any real way to make this estimation without solid data. We also recommend that you are cautious when reviewing other University studies and underlying assumptions used in the study. This article may also help: General Information about Multipliers: http://implan.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&layout=edit&id=212 If the IMPLAN Multipliers are unavailable to you at the moment, we would recommend using our I RIMS data which is a replacement for the BEA's RIMS II Mutliplier system. This is a spreadsheet of Multipliers that can be purchased by Industry or by Region: http://implan.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&view=category&virtuemart_category_id=2681&Itemid=1811. The product is at a lower granularity and thus a lower price point, but it would at least provide a picture of your region based on the regional data and IMPLAN trade assumptions.0 -
Thank you for your comments. When are the 2015 IMPLAN workshops? I just need tentative dates, such as month. For both locations - Washington DC and North Carolina, unless you plan to do it in another location next year.0

IMPLAN SupportHi Manzoor, Thank you for your follow up post and inquiry into our trainings! The IMPLAN workshops have not yet been finalized for 2016. While not all of the locations where we had the trainings this year will be the same as next year. We will be offering trainings in Charlotte, NC in 2016. I apologize, the months for the trainings are not yet in place.0
