MRIO results - unknown local purchase %

I am running an MRIO analysis linking one county to the rest of the state. I input $26 million to 457 - Advertising services. I am using the SAM estimate of 56% for that industry because I don't know how much will be purchased locally in that county or in the state. I would like to know how much of the $26 million would be purchased in the rest of the state if about $14.6 million (26*.56) is leftover after in-county purchases. Can the MRIO results tell me that? Or will I have to multiple $14.6 by the rest of state's RPC for sector 457 and run that separately in the rest of state model?

  • Hello, The way MRIO works is that it captures backward linkages of the local spending, so the MRIO to ROS state will only capture what is required to support 56% of $26MM. It has not assumption of where the leakage is spent. Since you aren't sure if or what rate the other 44% is spent in the data, then you could build a second set of MRIO linked Models ROS to county where you examined the impact of the 44% of $26MM spending in advertising the ROS Model and the potential feedbacks to the county.
