I have the direct employment, payroll, operational spending, capital spending, sales tax paid, and property tax paid for 2014 for a county airport and all the related businesses (many)on the airport property. I want to identify the indirect and induced employment, payroll, and aggregated spending for the airport in 2014 in the county it is located within. In other words, I want to identify the economic contribution of the airport to the local economy. I have 2014 IMPLAN data for the county. What technique should I use to do this? Thank you, Barbara
ALSO: (1) I can roughly break out some of the the jobs, payroll, and expenditures by other industry sectors beyond 408 (air transportation), such as car rentals (412 transit and ground pass...) and a few others... (2) I am wondering if there is a detailed list of activities included within 408 Air Transportation? I cant seem to find this anywhere? Again, thank you for assistance with this and the original question. -Barbara

Hi Barbara! Thank you for your post. To do a traditional Contribution study, your airport would need to be the only airport that reports to the specific Sector it reports to or a majority of it's production. However this should be determined on airport operational values only, because the other variables belongs to their own respective Sectors. If this is the case then the following article will help you to perform a Contribution analysis: http://implan.com/administrator/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&layout=edit&id=211. You will also need to separate and classify the capital spending. If you do not mind, what is the source of the sales tax? I presume they are not paid by the operations of the airport itself since it is government owned. Property taxes are also part of Output. However, if this airport is government owned, then this analysis takes a slightly different turn. Instead of impacting Sector 408- Air Transportation you would actually use Sector 531. This sector is specifically a payroll only sector that will not have any intermediate expenditures. Another way you can determine the appropriate sector is to look at the Industry's spending pattern to see if it reflects your industry: Explore> Social Accounts> Balance Sheet (Tab), and select View By: Industry Balance Sheet and the Commodity Demand tab. To address your last question, the Software results will tell you how the other Industries in your region are impacted from the airport being in the region. If you wanted to see how Car Rental impacts the region, you will need to start your analysis with Car Rental. If I understand your question correctly, are you looking for the types of production that are included in 408 - Air Transportation? If so, you can view this in the Sector Search found in the Help Menu- if you are using the IMPLAN Pro Software. If you sort the Industry Codes and scroll down to 408, this will include all products that report to 408. Thanks!
