Question about the SAM from IMPLAN
Hi,
A standard SAM should include the ROW. How can I transfer the SAM from IMPLAN to a standard SAM.
When I built a SAM from IMPLAN, I am confusing two sectors in the SAM: 1. Foreign Trade (25001) and Domestic Trade (28001). How to interpret those two sectors and why they only have “income” from industry rather commodity.

IMPLAN SupportHi Sheng, In the IxC SAM, the values in the Commodity column represent local production of commodities. Since Trade (whether Foreign or Domestic) is by definition not local, there will be no value in that column for those 2 rows. Those 2 rows do not just receive income from Industry (which represents businesses purchasing inputs from non-local suppliers) but also from Institutions (e.g., Households, Government), who also purchase goods from non-local suppliers. Please see the attached document for more information about IMPLAN's IxC SAM. The ROW depends on the region. For example, if my model is the State of Colorado, the ROW will consist of both a) all the other states in the U.S. (Domestic Trade) and b) other countries (Foreign Trade). If, on the other hand, my model is the entire U.S., then obviously there is no Domestic Trade and ROW consists solely of Foreign Trade. Thanks! 0 -
Hi, Thanks for your reply. It's really helpful. Is any way to rebuilt the IMPLAN's IxC SAM to a standard SAM for CGE model (Gams). Best, Sheng0

IMPLAN SupportHi Sheng, It’s not clear to us what you mean by a “standard” SAM. If you let us know, perhaps we can be of additional help. That said, it sounds like you might benefit from using the IxI SAM instead of the IxC SAM for exporting to GAMS. The inter-industry matrix will be square on an IxI basis and likely more simple. You can export either the IxC or IxI SAMs to GAMS by going to the SAM, clicking Export>Industry Detail SAM Files (CSV only)>GAMS Single File or GAMS 26 File. Thanks!0
