Sawmill industry of New Hamphire
I'm studying the sawmills industry in New Hampshire. IMPLAN 2014 model shows that the total output value of this industry is $230 million, while Economic Census 2012 shows only $151 million. Why is there so much discrepancy?

Hello Daniel, There are a few reasons as to why IMPLAN data varies from Census data. 1. Census only reflects revenue. Output in IMPLAN also includes changes in inventory. In the case of 2014, $3.3M of 2014 sales were attributed to sales from inventory. 2. The Annual Survey of Manufacturers is lagged by one year, so we project our Output numbers (2012 output is projected from 2011 values). 3. Economies change over time. As a point of comparison, IMPLAN's 2012 data for NH lists industry output for sawmills at $206,009,857.
