Cannot use noninteger scale coefficient on Commodity Event simulations

I'm surprised that I cannot find a post on this, but I am used to scaling up and down my expenditure profiles by non-integer values, and cannot do that with the online version. The online version appears to limit scaling to integer values only, such that if I want to reduce all commodity output by a factor of .75, I have to do that in a spreadsheet and import it, though it seems like I should be able to use the event/activity scale factor to accomplish this in the software. Similarly, if I want to increase all categories by 25%, I'm stuck, with line by line changes in IMPLAN, or creating a spreadsheet for import. This should be a simple multiplicative function, so any real number value should be valid. Am I missing something? Why is the scale for Commodity Events limited to integer values (it may be integer only for other Event types as well)?

Many thanks,

Steve

    Hello Steve!

You are correct that the Group Scaling functionality is restricted to whole numbers in the IMPLAN Cloud, but you can scale individual Events using non-integer values. First you will need to toggle Event Scaling within the Group that you want to scale values up or down in:

Once you have done this, you will have the ability to scale the entire Group by whole numbers - however, you can scale the individual Events included in these Groups by any real number:

I will be sure to pass your feedback on Group Scaling to the IMPLAN Product Team and see if we can have this implemented as a future product improvement.

  • Thanks Michael,

We saw we could do that at the individual event level. As both the individual event and the group event level would simply apply the same multiplication, I really don't see a rationale for limiting that field to integer values only.  I recall the desktop version not having that restriction. This does disrupt my workflow on some of my project types and I strongly encourage this restriction to be lifted.

Also, the cloud version does not easily allow us to discuss event groups like the desktop version. There the group of events was called an Activity. Is that still the case with the cloud version?

  • Steve,

Totally understand where you are coming from, so I have opened an inquiry with the team to look into allowing non-integer values for Group Scaling in IMPLAN Cloud. While grouping certain Events together to form an Activity is not something you can do in IMPLAN Cloud, users do have the ability to organize subsets of Events by adding Event Tags - read more in our support article here.
