On a recent Census webcast about the Economic Census, it was stated that "sales" for scheduled passenger air transportation was somehow based on fare revenues based on the point of sale. This is problematic if you are trying to truly measure economic activity at a sub-national level in particular employment levels (particularly for connecting flights). How do you measure this sub-sector for the 408 Air Transportation IMPLAN sector including how do you update from year-to-year? Any other source for how this sector is covered in the Economic Census? Thanks.

Hello there!
The 2012 Economic Census does have a breakdown by 2-digit NAICS by product code. While this isn't an ideal data set, you can use the the breakout of establishments or revenue as a proxy for the products that fall in air transportation.
The Bureau of Transportation Stats has some great data.

Here is an article about airport economic impacts, too.
