Puerto Rico data in US 2024

In the 2023 U.S. National dataset, Puerto Rico appears as a filterable geography, but in the 2024 dataset it does not appear in the list of states.

  1. Does this mean Puerto Rico is not included in the 2024 U.S. national totals, or is it included but not available to be run as a separate geography?
  2. If Puerto Rico is excluded from the U.S. national dataset in 2024, what is the recommended approach for organizations that want to: a) Report U.S. national impacts including PR, and b) Also run PR as a standalone geography?
  • Can I run US 2024 Impact + PR 2023 Impact separately and add the 2 impacts together? Or do I run everything for 2023?

Thanks!

    Hi Kate,

Puerto Rico is not included in the 2024 US Annual Dataset. Only the 50 US states and Washington DC are included in IMPLAN's US Annual datasets. US Territories are separate data releases.

If you would like to include Puerto Rico and the US in your analysis, I would recommend running your entire analysis in Data Year 2023. Summing across different Data Years is not recommended, as we do see some changes in the economy from year to year.

    Hope this helps!
