NEW SECTORING SCHEME FOR CANADA
Starting with Data Year 2022, IMPLAN’s Canada products now use a 236 industry scheme due to a change in Input-Output Industry Classification (IOIC) scheme use by Statistics Canada. As such, this release of environmental data is built using that 236 industry scheme. Ratios for all components of the IMPLAN environmental product are available for these 236 industries. For more information on the new 236 sector scheme, please see the 2022 Canada Release Notes.
UPDATE TO 2022 NAICS FOR RAW SOURCES
The raw data source used for Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), Perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6) has been updated to incorporate the latest 2022 NAICS scheme. This data comes from the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP) – Facility Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Data produced by the Canadian Government. This data is used to allocate totals of these compounds from Canada’s Official Greenhouse Gas Inventory to industries.
The OpenIO Canada data source for Air Releases, Water Releases, Land Releases, Disposals, and Transfers Data was also updated to use the 2022 NAICS scheme.
INCLUSION OF MAGNESIUM COMPOUNDS IN MINERAL EXTRACTIONS DATA
The 2026 Model Year/2022 Data Year release of Canada Environmental now includes Magnesium Compounds as part of its Mineral Extractions data. These data come from the United States Geological Survey, and are found as metric tons of contained magnesium oxide. The only industry that produces these is Industry 19 - Sand, gravel, clay, and ceramic and refractory minerals mining and quarrying.
UPDATED 2022 FLOWABLE DATA
All data in this release of IMPLAN’s Canada Environmental product now use ratios of 2022 environmental data to 2022 industry output. The exception for this is Water Use, which continues to use 2021 water use data with 2021 industry output – in the new, 236 industry scheme – due to the raw data releasing biannually.
