Learn what IMPLAN Global environmental data adds for 2021 and 2022: greenhouse gas (GHG) emission estimates by industry, based on OECD.
WHAT ENVIRONMENTAL DATA DOES IMPLAN GLOBAL INCLUDE?
Starting with Data Years 2022 and 2021, IMPLAN International now has Environmental data. The environmental data show Environmental Output (estimates of physical Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions) by Industry and Region. Driving these estimates are ratios of physical GHG emissions per dollar of Industry Output. IMPLAN applies these ratios to Output by Industry Region Data and Impact Results to generate estimates of physical GHG emissions.
International Environmental data is available for 2021 and 2022, with each environmental dataset labeled in accordance with the data year from which the raw data originates (e.g. the Environmental Release Year).
WHICH GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS DO THE ESTIMATES COVER?
IMPLAN’s International Environmental Data consists of estimates of total physical emissions of GHGs. Total GHG data is expressed in terms of tonnes of Carbon Dioxide equivalents (t CO2 eq). GHG emissions are associated with production only.
With the exception of utility industries, this makes IMPLAN’s direct data comparable to Scope 1 emissions. Scope 2 and 3 emissions are then calculated as the first-round indirect purchase of energy (Scope 2) and all other indirect and induced purchases (Scope 3). For more information on Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, please see our article about Scope Emissions.
WHERE DO IMPLAN GLOBAL EMISSIONS ESTIMATES COME FROM?
The physical GHG emission data used in IMPLAN’s International Environmental Data come from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). These data are reported in the format of physical quantities (million tonnes of CO2-equivalent) and are reported by Industry at the national level. IMPLAN develops ratios of physical emissions per dollar of Industry Output (using the corresponding Data Year of the economic data) and applies those ratios to Region Data and Impact Results to generate estimates of GHG emissions.
