Sector for conventional and solar thermal pwr plnt

1. What is the appropriate Sector to use to analyze construction of a solar thermal power plant? And what is the appropriate Sector to use to analyze a conventional power plant? Right now I'm using Sector 36, "Construction of other new non-residential structures." 2. Also, is my methodology for the modeling correct? Inputs: total local expenditures; employment; and labor costs; (I then place $0 in the proprieter income slot, as the labor costs are a combined total). Thanks!!!

  • 1. Sector 36 would be appropriate for each type of power plant. See this forum discussion for some general tips on construction impacts: http://implan.com/v4/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=84&id=9307&Itemid=35#9308 2. We typically recommend using a Labor Income Change activity for the payroll portion of the budget and an Industry Spending Pattern for the nonpayroll portion of the budget (being sure to normalize the spending pattern to 1.00). Using an Industry Change is only an option if your Industry Sales value includes profits and taxes (not just the payroll and non-payroll expenditures) - remember, Output = Intermediate Inputs + Value Added, and Value-Added includes IBT and OPI. If you want to also show the recurring impacts of operating the plant, you could use sector 31, first editing the production function to remove the fossil fuel inputs (see this forum discussion: http://implan.com/v4/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=84&id=6420&Itemid=35#6422)
