How should a company's activities (through their shared services center) be inputted in Industry Activity?

If a company has revenue and headcount/compensation from it's Shared Services Center. How should this analysis be inputted into the Industry Activity Analysis in IMPLAN?

What IMPLAN code should I select?

Should I only input the Service Fee income to foreign affiliate or would service fee to domestic affiliates also count?

Thanks,

    Hello!

The appropriate Industry Code to select would be dependent on what purpose the Shared Service Center serves. The first step would be to attempt to tie the Shared Service Center to an North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code, which can vary depending on the purpose it serves for the company. After finding the appropriate NAICS code, this can be bridged to an IMPLAN Industry using the NAICS to IMPLAN Industry Search, or the NAICS to IMPLAN Industry Bridge (can be downloaded here).

Not being familiar with the structure of the overall company and how this facility generates revenue, it is difficult to comment on the fees. Generally, if the business operates in the Region then their local operations should be considered. You could use an Industry Impact Analysis (Detailed) Event Type with revenue entered as Output, Employment entered as either Wage and Salary, Proprietor Employment, or Total Employment. The compensation would be captured as Employee Compensation (the total remuneration of employees in return for their work on domestic production, and is the sum of Wage and Salary Income + Supplements. ), Proprietor Income, or Labor Income. It is important to note that Employment in IMPLAN is an Industry-specific mix of full-time, part-time, and seasonal employment. It is an annual average that accounts for seasonality and follows the same definition used by the BLS and BEA. IMPLAN Employment is not equal to full time equivalents.  Includes wage and salary employment and proprietors. IMPLAN jobs can be converted to FTEs and vice-versa using the file 528 FTE & Employee Compensation Conversion Table.  For more information, visit IMPLAN to FTE Conversions.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any additional questions.
